Iron Infusion GP Service in Belair, Blackwood and Surrounds

Safe, Supervised Treatment for Rapid Iron Replenishment

At Belair Family Health Centre, we provide medically supervised iron infusions for patients where oral iron supplements have proven ineffective, are poorly tolerated, or are insufficient to correct a significant deficiency. Iron deficiency is a leading cause of fatigue, “brain fog,” and reduced physical performance, often stemming from poor absorption, pregnancy, or chronic blood loss.

We are a trusted clinic for iron infusion services serving Belair, Blackwood, and the wider Mitcham Hills community.

Assessment & Clinical Eligibility

An iron infusion is a clinical procedure that requires a formal assessment by a General Practitioner to ensure it is the safest and most appropriate treatment for you.

Your initial consultation will include:

  • Pathology Review: Detailed analysis of your Full Blood Count (FBC) and Iron Studies (Ferritin levels) to confirm deficiency.
  • Medical Screening: Evaluation of your renal function (E/LFTs) and overall medical history to minimize procedural risks.
  • Referral Management: If you have been referred by an outside specialist or GP, our team will review your recent blood results and provide a tailored treatment plan.

What to Expect During Your Procedure

Our infusions are performed in a dedicated, monitored environment to ensure patient comfort and safety.

  • Procedure Duration: The infusion typically takes between 30 and 45 minutes, during which you will be closely monitored by our experienced practice nurse, Sheree.
  • Medication: Most infusions in Australia utilize Ferinject (ferric carboxymaltose) or Monofer (ferric derisomaltose), which allow for the rapid delivery of a high dose of iron directly into the bloodstream.
  • Post-Treatment: Most patients notice a significant improvement in energy and cognitive function within 1 to 2 weeks, with full benefits typically felt by 6 to 8 weeks.

Fee Transparency & Medicare

We believe in clear communication regarding treatment costs. The total cost of an iron infusion includes the clinical procedure, consumable materials, and nursing time.

  • Medicare Rebates: Part of the cost for the doctor’s consultation and the infusion procedure may be rebatable through Medicare.
  • Out-of-Pocket: Adelaide area clinics typically range from $135 to $207 in out-of-pocket gap fees. We recommend discussing your specific fee structure with our reception team before your appointment.
  • Pharmacy: You will need to purchase your iron medication from a pharmacy using a prescription provided by our GP.

Experienced Clinical Team

Your infusion is managed by a team with extensive procedural experience:

  • Dr. Jeremy Yang: Proficient in all aspects of general medicine and the management of chronic deficiencies.
  • Dr. Celine Goh: Holds a Diploma in Child Health and has a keen interest in Women’s Health, where iron deficiency is frequently encountered.
